Home      About Jensen

Jensen grew up in Atlanta, Georgia where she attended The Westminster Schools. She enjoyed cheerleading, serving as yearbook editor and as a tour guide.
In high school, Jensen served Georgia as Miss Georgia American Teen in 2005 and as Miss Teen Georgia International 2006.
She was able to work to raise awareness of learning disabilities as well as to begin her continued support of the American Cancer Society through participation in Relay for Life.

In 2006, Jensen moved to Tennessee as a freshman at Vanderbilt University.

Pursuing a life-long dream of becoming a physician, Jensen studied biology and works avidly with the Vanderbilt Children's Hospital.

In college, Jensen became a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority, a tour guide, and a board member with Vanderbilt Student Volunteers for Science.
She graduated cum laude with a degreee in Molecular and Cellular Biology and minors in Chemistry and Child Development in May of 2010.

In the fall of 2010 Jensen will relocate to Memphis, Tennessee as she begins medical school as a member of the University of Tennessee School of Medicine Class of 2014.

Having witnessed first-hand the dismal state of health care in Nicaragua, Columbia, and parts of Mexico, Jensen decided that there needed to be a better way to connect individuals in America with these disadvantaged communities abroad.

With that thought in mind, "Act Locally, Heal Internationally" was born. This organization answers the question, "can what I do at home really help a clinic half way around the world?" with a resounding "YES!" We show individuals and communities ways in which simple fundraisers in their own community can make a huge impact on clinics in other countries!

In 2007, continuing to live her platform, Jensen helped found an organization to meet the needs of individuals in the Dominican Republic who are suffering from a lack of access to health care services.

Working towards building a number of clinics in the Dominican Republic, the RADR organization has flourished at Vanderbilt.

RADR, Rescue and Aid for the Dominican Republic, is the first of many ways that Jensen has reached out to the global community to work towards a healthier world.

The one thing that matters is the effort. It continues, whereas the end to be attained is but an illusion of the climber, as [she] fares on from crest to crest; and once the goal is reached it has no meaning.
-Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, The Wisdom of the Sands, translated from French.

You may not know...
As a 5th grader, Jensen was featured on "CNN with Natalie Allen" when the show filmed a nationally televised spot about the summer camp she ran beginning at age 7!

Jensen once broke her growth plate with her own forehead...a failed attempt at a back tuck.

Jensen was a doctor for her first Halloween...it really has been a life-long dream!

Future Goals for "Act Locally, Heal Internationally"
1) Spread the Spark!
>It is vital for me to continue to speak to groups around the world about the dire lack of basic health care services in many populations. Using the facts of the situation, I will continue to spread the message that acting locally can truly make a difference and help to heal populations abroad.

2) Strengthen my partnership with my Dominican Clinic
> My personal effort to "Act Locally, Heal Internationally" has allowed me to partner with a clinic that serves rural populations in the Dominican Republic. This clinic has a daily operating budget of over $43,000 and serves hundreds of patients each day. I will continue to work to support this clinic with financial donations raised in local fundraisers and with supplies collected in my area.

3) Continue developing innovative fundraising concepts as a member of the Children of the Nations Advocate's Council.
>As a member of the Children of the Nations Advocate's Council, I will continue to participate in quarterly conference calls with members from around the globe. We work to develop creative and novel ideas to raise funds and awareness for the work that Children of the Nations is doing to raise children who have the tools to transform their own nations from the inside out!
